MR H. R. ROBERTS.
YISIT TO MARTON. New Zealand is proud of her own. It cannot be said that local prophets have no honor in this country, for we have from time to time been afforded evidence of the fact that New Zealanders are remarkably quick to encourage the talent in their midst, and equally ready to applaud it when it has been successfully developed. There is no other instance in the theatrical history of this country which affords a parallel' to the case of H. R. Roberts, who will appear in Marton on Monday evening next, in a new London Comedy “The Prince Chap.” Mr Roberts has the unique distinction of being the first actor who has left the Australasian Colonies to become an accepted star on the English and American stage. In the course of nine years’ experience abroad he has been associated with some of the leading artistes of the English-speaking world, and within the past two or three years has taken front rank among them. London is the Mecca of all ambitious actors and Mr Roberts’ name stands out amongst hundreds who have made that weary pilgrimage as the only one which is enrolled among the first rank artistes of the great critical capital. For 150 nights he starred at Sir Charles Wyndham’s Criterion Theatre, London, in “The Prince Chap,” Tire box plan is now open at Mogridge’s.
