ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Per PressJJAssociatioa Christchurch, June 16. A man named Augustus Kelly fell off an electric tram car in Moorhouse Avenue last night, and the car ran over one of his legs, almost completely severing the foot. He was taken to the hospital and had his injury dressed. Mr John Gilroy, chief engineer of the s.s. Kaituna, who lost both feet by being run over at Lyttelton yesterday, and who is at present in the Lyttelton casualty ward, is reported to be progressing favourably, but it is too early yet to say definitely whether he will recover. A married woman named Mary Collins was found in her home at the Waiau on Friday night burned to death. Mr Geo. Bradford, a local baker, noticed the house in flames. On going to the scene he found the woman lying dead, face downward, in an open fireplace. He extricated the body (which was burned beyond recognition), and apprised Constable Bird at Culverden. An inquest was held on Saturday, when a verdict of death by accidental burning was returned. It seems the woman was alone in the house at the time, and must have had a seizure. Dunedin, June 16. H. M. Marryatt, aged 65 years, died very suddenly at£Milton to-day while walking home to lunch with his daughter. He had suffered from heart trouble for some time, aud was being medically attended. He had resided in the district since 1862, and was head clerk at McGill’s flour mills.
