OYSTER SOUP.
A few days ago a 'gentleman entered a restaurant and after scanning the hill of fare asked the waitress to Tbring him. a plate of oyster soup. "When the plate was set before him he worked his spoon slowly back■•wards and forwards in it, then explored the sides calmly, hut his quest wasvain. Beckoning the waitress, 'he said calmly, “Look here, Mary, there’s not a vestige of an oyster m -this plate.” The poor girl could not deny the fact, but anxious to do ■the best she could for the credit of the establishment she stammered, ■“‘No, sir, there doesn’t seem to be, 3>ut—er, but the gentleman at the -next table has got ‘one’ ” “Well, Mary,” said the oysterlesa -one gravely, “go over and get a loan -of it for me.” That was too much for Mary, and -with a look of unutterable reproach .-she fled,
