Per Press Association. Napier, June 11. The cases in •which Mr H. B. Lusk, barrister, sued Ewen MacDonell, Inspector of Police, for £IOOO and £SOO damages for alleged slander and libel, have been settled by defendant publicly apologising. Auckland, June 11. At the Supreme Court Henry Gadd, ex-employee of the Government Poultry Export Depot, was charged with theft of a large quantity of eggs and sentenced to 18 mouths’ imprisonment; Claude Illingworth charged with theft from a hotel to IB months’ imprisonment. Wellington, June 11. In connection with the charge of assault arising out of the stabbing affray on the steamer Jessie Burns on the 30th May, Zimmerman, one of tire sailors under arrest since that date, to-day pleaded guilty and was committed for' sentence. The other two men were discharged.
