Christchurch, June 10. Christchurch City Council last night adopted remits for the Municipal Conference. Among them were recommendations that the hour of closing loan polls should he more clearly defined, that at local elections the vote should ha recorded by striking out the name of the candidate not desired instead of placing a cross against the name voted for; that the district electors roll of a borough should he used for all elections and polls, borough authorities contributing to the cost of the rolls; that Councillors travelling on Council business should have travelling expenses paid; that the 4 ten per cent charge on overdue - * rates should he made part of the rate after six months and fourteen days after the. rate fell due; that the Municipal Corporations Act should he amended to prevent laying oat of private streets without the consent of the Council and that efforts should be made to improve vthe machinery of elections.
