ARE THEY SUPERSEDED?
United Press Association.—By*Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received June 9, 8.30 a.m. ■ Loudon, June 8. .
The Admiralty has decided that ethergraphs render unnecessary the carrier pigeons, which are bred to home from any direction. German agents have been instructed to buy the birds regardless of cost. The Standard declares that the Admiralty by selling the pigeons effects an economy of only £4OO a year, whereas pigeons are needed on picket boats used for watching hostile harbours.
