HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. Per Press Association. Wellington, June 8. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the Commissioner under date London, June 6th

The mutton market is weak and there is very little business doing. Prices are nominal except for light weight Canterbury brands for which there is great competition. Canterbury mutton is quoted at North Island at 3^d. The lamb market is very firm and there is good demand for all brands. Canterbury lamb is quoted at and other chan Canterbury at 5%d. A small shipment of lambs has arrived from Pnnta Arenas. The beef market is very dull, the weather lately having been unfavourable for sale. Hindquarters are quoted at and forequarters at 2%d. The butter 5 market is quiet, but steady, and there is a very limited supply of colonial butter Choicest New Zealand is quoted at 109 s, Danish Ills, Siberian 101 s. The cheese market is lifeless, with no change in prices to report. The hemp market is steady with more demand. Following are current quotations Good fair grade on spot £26 10s, fair grade on spot £24 10s, fair current Manila on spot £24 10s. June and July shipments of good fair grade £26 10s, fair grade £24 15s, fair current Manila £24 15s. The stock held in Loudon consists of 702 tons. The cocksfoot market is very firm and there is no pressure to sell few inquiries being made by speculative buyers. Shipments from'River Plate during the montli of May were as follows :—Mutton for London 92,299; Liverpool 120,847; Hull 1823 ; Cardiff 10,933; Southampton 4154; Plymouth 1170; Ireland 3734. Lamb: Loudon 6375, Liverpool 6551, Hull 381, Cardiff 83, Southampton 5598, Plymouth 346, Ireland 100. Butter, 2843 cwts.
