EGG FARMING.
SIR, —As a small man I have been waiting with much imerest to see what action is going to be taken to start the depot at Marton Junction for the collection of eggs as suggested in your paper of 20th May. I hope someone will take the matter up*, because I know that such a scheme as Is outlined by you lias been adopted elsewhere with most beneficial results. No doubt it would require a little outlay to start with, but on the other hand there are hundreds of people, both in the town and on small farms in the district, who would be glad to add a little to their incomes by supplying eggs to the carts as they go round—and once established, it would lead to co-operation amongst farmers in other matters, which,;l think, is so much wanted. I have read that in Denmark, the great home of cooperation, the system was started with the collection of eggs; then it went on to butter,,, cheese, bacon, etc. The' establishment need not be large to start with. I think there is a good opening here for someone owning a trap and horse and a section near the Junction. Large fortunes have been made from small beginnings, and although we cannot all hope to make large fortunes we would all like to add a little to our incomes as this proposal would enable us to. I hope. Sir, that in the interest of the small settlers you will not allow the matter to drop, but will keep on at it until public interest is aroused. —I am, etc., SMALL FARMER.
