HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. Per Press Association. Wellington, June 1. The Department of Industries aud Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated Loudon , May 30th There has bean no alteration in the mutton market since last week. Shipments now arriving are very small but the prospects are favourable. Following are the current quotations : Canterbury mutton d> North Island 3d, River Plate -

The lamb market [is firm and there is a good demand for ail lamb. Canterbury brands are quoted at 5%a and other than Canterbury at 5%d. The beef market is dull. Hindquarers are quoted at 3%d, forequarters Bd. The butter market is steady and some supplies are increasing. Choicest New Zealand butter is quoted at 109 s (nominal), Danish 110 s, Siberian 100 s, per cwt. The cheese market is dull and declining and Canadians are hurrying forward supplies. New Zealand white make is quoted at 60s and coloured at 575, Canadian makes at 58s.

The hemp market is very weak with nothing doing. Following are current quotations : Good fair grade on spot £36, fair grade on spot £24, fair current Manila on spot £24, May to July shipments are quoted—good fair grade “526 10s, fair grade £24 15s, fair current Manila £24 15s. The cocksfoot seed market is firm, and buyers are not. keen to do business. There are light stocks on hand and bright clean 171 b seed is quoted at 80s.

The wool sales closed with improved competition. The market is stronger but prospects are uncertain as a large quantity is held over. Following are estimated values, suxierior Merino ?lld to Is medium Merino ‘ to inferior Merino 5%d to Bd, fine crossbreds (all grades”) lOd to Is, medium crossbreds (all grades) ?3sd to coarse 5d to B%d.
