ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

Per Press Association. Dunedin, May 31. A young man, supposed to be Colin "Morris, of Port Chalmers, met with a fatal accident on the railway last night. His dead body was found alongside the line about half a mile south of the Dunedin Station. The right foot from the instep was crushed to pulp, the top of his skull lifted off, and his right wrist broken, besides minor injuries. In his pocket was found a post card addressed “Colin Morris, care of Mararoa, Lvttelton,” and posted at Port Chalmers. The deceased was apparently about 18 or 20 years of age. It is surmised that he got on the Mosgiel train instead of the Port Chalmers train, and jumped off when he noticed his mistake. On May Bth, a man named Stirling was admitted to the hospital In a semi-conscious condition. He lay in the same stats until last night, when he died. Peter Pastou, tram conductor, aged 28, died at the hospital yesterday, while under the influence of an anesthetic preparatory to undergoing an operation. Dr. Ritchie said that he administered fcc'deceased a mixture of chloroform and ether after examining him and finding him fit for an anesthetic, which was necessary for the serious operation he had to undergo. Deceased took the anesthetic well but suddenly became unconscious, dying shortly afterwards. The doctor’s opinion was that death was duo to heart failure septic absorption from empyema accelerated by the auaetheatio. Drs. Falconer and Ritchie agreed as to the cause of death and also stated that the operation was absolutely necessary. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony, adding that no blame was attachable to anyone. Pahiatua, June 1. The death of David Potchett occurred at his residence yesterday morning. His’wife went to call him to go to church and found him sitting in a chair quite dead. Deceased, who was 56 years.' of age. leaves a widow and five children, all grown up. He formerly resided in Canterbury and came to Pahiatua about seven years ago. For many years he took active interest in Wesleyanism and was circuit steward here as well as secretary to school committee. The cause of death was heart affection.
