Cattle ‘ came forward in good numbers, but "the demand was not as keen as last and a dragging sale was the result. Very little demand existed ' for beef, and most lots went out unsold. We quote: -Prime heavy wethers 17s, others 14s to 15s sd, . prime heavy ewes 14s 7d, others 11s Id to 12s 9d, forward wethers 13s 2d to 14s, 2-tooth wethers 10s 9d, empty ewes 8s 9d, aged ewes in lamb 6s 9d, cull ewes in lamb 4s lid, lambs 6s 7d to 8s 2d, small lambs 4s to 4s Bd, 2year steers £2 10s, fat cows £4 to £5 10s, forward heifers £2 11s to £3 2s, heifers in calf £8 to £8 ss, dairy cows in calf £3 10s to £4. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. report;—At Palmerston on Thursday we had a medium-entry of sheep and cattle. Sheep :‘F.m. ewes in lamb made 7s sd. Cattle: V Weaners 7s, 18-months heifers*26s 6d, f heifers in calf 35s to £2, store cows V 21s to 355, forward cows £2 14s, fat cows £4 6s, 2 and steers (rough) £2 9s, bullocks (bad colours) £4, in conjunction with Dalgety and Co., 3-year steers £4 2s. At our Rangiwahia sale on Tuesday, there was a good yarding of sheep, but a small one of cattle. All classes of sheep sold fairly well. Quotations -.—SheepMixed aged ewes 11s • ,4d, 8 and 4-year ewes in lamb 15s, '.■cull 2-tooth wethers 7s lOd, 2-tooth lambs 6s to 7s, wether lambs 7s 6d to 7s 7d. Seld a very successful clearing sale on the 20th inst., on account of Mr E. R. Wilson, Sanson, when they offered the whole of his live and dead stock, implements, etc., to a very large attendance of buyers. Bidding was brisk, and all classes of stock, also implements, etc., met with a ready sale at the following prices :—Draught horses £l7, £22 10s, £2B, £3l 10s, £35 * hacks £6 10s to £ll* trap mare £24 10s, dairy cows in milk £6 2s 6d to £6 os, backward calvers £2 5s to £2 10s, heifers 36s to £2 2s 6d, weaner heifers 9s, wethers 12s 6d to 12s Bd, d.f. plough £3 15s, manure and grain drill £ls 10s, “-srping dray £9, tip dray £ll, reaper and binder £l9 10s, gig £l9. A large quantity of harness, poultry and ; . sundries sold at current rates. We . also held our usual weekly sale on " Thursday, the 21st inst., when we /A had a fair yarding of both sheep and cattle. Although prices were not v- high the demand was fairly good, k and we quitted almost the whole of our entry under the hammer at prices as below :—Small lambs 4s 8d to 5s 4d, forward lambs 9a 3d, empty ewes 4s 9d, 5s 7d, 8s 7d, forward ewes 12s 6d, 2-tootb wethers 12s Bd, 2 and 4-tooth ewes in lamb 13s 3d, fat ewes 13s 7d, fat and forward heifers?£3 15s, %% to 4-year bullocks £5 6s, Sempty cows £2 18s, 3-years steers £4 2s. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on Taihape sale :—There was a full yarding of sheep and few cattle. There was a decided rise in lambs and all other classes of sheep sold very much better. We quote : Empty ewes from Ss, culls 3s sd, Jfat ewes 21s to 12s 6d, 2-tooth wethers 10s 6d to 11s 7d, lambs up to 8s 2d, culls 2s 7d, good weaners made 21s. || GRAIN REPORT. Mr F. Pownall, of the N. Z. and Canterbury Farmers’ Co-op. Associations, Wellington, reports as follows, all quotations being f.o. b., port of shipment, sacks free. Oats: Store stocks are being relieved by Commonweath drawings, keeping values firm. Chaffing, at present returns, is causing shrinkage in threshings, and will strengthen vendors hands during winter months. B grade Danish rule at 2s 7d, Sparrowbills 2s Gartons 2s Bd, Colonial seeds 3s, Imported Algerians 3s lid. Wheajt: Recent Home advance, and in Australia, has not been sustained, Adelaide receding to 4s 5d from 4s 6d, Dominion holders are seeking 5s for best milling, and restricting trade. Fowl feed 4s Present flour prices locally will induce imports; Melbourne now offering at less landed costs. Potatoes: Market is active despite unsettled shipping regulations, Whites selling freely at £5, Blues 105 a ; Tasmania advises a firming. Maize: Small shipm-nts North clear at 5s 6d. Barley : Malting quiet 5s 3d, feed 3s 9d. Peas: Partridge fair sale 4s 6d, split £l*s —lO s. Bran: Reduced output has risen cost to £6 ss. Pollard: Demand above supply at £7 10s. Oatmeal : 25’s now ask £l3, rolled oats £lB, oatina 10s 6d; slight advance probable. Chaff: Sydney buying has hardened bright cut to 102 s 6d, medium 85s to 90s, rye-corn chaff 755, oat-straw chaff 60s. Kay: Pressed straw is worth 455, ryeclover hay 87s 6d.
