Per Press Association. Auckland, May 21. The steamer Randani from Fiji "brought further news of the shooting of several people by a mad Indian at Navua. He was employed on a plantation by the Colonial Sugar Company. He suddenly became impressed with the desire to plunder and armed himself with a gun and attacked and shot at Mrs Swann who was alone in her house. Mrs Swann was only slightly injured. The Indian then sallied forth, shooting right and left, but being much under the influence of liquor, his aim was by no means .good. He shot fatally Mr Pender, an overseer employed on the plantation, shot one Indian dead and •seriously injured another. Several Europeans had narrow escapes. The rmadman was pursued by the police and was eventually shot dead.
