THE WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING,
The monthly meeting of the Wnuganui Education Board was held last evening. F: Pirani (Chairman), Fraser, Aldridge, Cargill, Bennett, Purnell, Dixon and Guthrie. Resignations—The following resignations were received .E. McNab (Aramoho), B. Henderson (Ron go - tea), O. Henry (Riverton), O. Franklin (Apiti), E. Evans (Raurimu), 0. E. Poynfcer (Hawera), E. McMekin (Dnuolly), Miss E. McMekin (Duunoly), Miss E. McMekin withdrew her resignation from Dunolly. The Board accepted the withdrawal. The following appointments were made:—Miss Ingpeu, Hunterville ; A. McCarthy, Long Acre Valley; Miss Flyger, Ohakune ; Miss E. Day, Kapunui; Miss T. Herby, Kaubatea; Miss M. O. Robson, Raetihi; Mr J. Browning, Bitsnsw'ick; Miss 0. D. Palmer, of Mai’ton, wrote applying to be transferred. —Resolved that the request be granted as soon as possible. Leave of absence was granted to M. Oarmody, Taihape; T. Henderson, Horopito; Y. Houeyfield, Taihape; B. Henderson, Rougotea; R. G. D. Lightbourne, Mataroa; J. G. Blair, Wanganui; P. Toms, Manutahi; L. P. Tegner, Makirikiri; A. McDonogh, Campbell street; J. W. Russell, Queen’s Park; F. Neilson, St. John’s. Resolutions: — Huntervilie —School to be enlarged should number of pupils necessitate enlargement. Medals—Education Department to bo asked if they were supplying funds for the distribution of Dominion Day medals in the Wanganui district. Auroa—Committee’s request grant ted to have dimensions of the shelter shed reduced from 36ft by 12ft to k 30ft by 12ft. Ashhurst —£5 granted for repairs. '’“ Spur road —New range to be proi: vided. Raetihi— £l for £1 subsidy ’to be
granted for flagpole up to £l. River lea —£l 18s granted for fencing. Chutn—Tenders called for leasing school ground at Ohutu and that school be closed. Ashhurst—A thousand-gallon tank - -be -granted ; also cupboard. Main South Road —Re fencing school ground, left in hands of Mr Guthrie. sMangaeturoa—£G granted for Repairing fences, etc. Kawhatau —Application for bathroom granted. Makowhai —Mr Purnell to inquire as to the cost of purchasing two acres of land for enlarging the Makowhai School. Matapou—Three nominations were received and agreed to to complete committee. Pukeroa —Messrs Walters and Lawson appointed commissioners. Whakamara —Mr T. J. Allan wrote complaining about the election of Mr Cain on the School Committee —Resolved that Mr Allan be formed that the Board cannot interfere in the matter. Holidays—School Committees were authorised to fix next holiday either on Empire Day or Prince of Wales’ Birthday; schools in southern ward should close for mid-winter holidays during the week of Palmerston Show. Waipnru—Application for piano was not, granted. The Board does not provide pianos. Eapuni—Architect to be asked to darw up an estimate for additions to Kapuni School. Turangarere—Request for establishing school at- Turangarere township held over pending information. Buonythorpe Application for alteration of hours to enable pupils to indulge in athletics granted. Giants —The following are the grants, notified by the Education Department: Fencing Marton Technical School site, additions to teachers’ residences Kirubolton, Ngamatapouri, school at Kaitueke, Opakn residence, Pukeokahu residence, Awahou resdience, Auroa enlargement of residence, Raetihi enlargement of residence.
