Per Press Association. Auckland, May 19. Reginald Brooking Tattou, a young farmer, was charged with assaulting one Alexander .Livingstone and causing actual bodily harm at Whatawhata. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty and the accused was discharged. Napier, May 19. John Simpson (alias George MeCoombe, alias McGuire) pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court today to charges of forgery and uttering and false pretences, and was committed to the Supreme Gourt_for senChristchuroh, May 19. At the Supreme Court to-day Thomas Sutherland was acquitted on a charge of stealing a purse containing £8 10s from a dwelling house at Winslow. John MoClusky was convicted of Tape, and sentence was deferred till to-morrow. The cargo poaching cases on the Papanui in January last are now being heard. Wellintgon, May 19. At the Supreme Court to-day Thomas Prisk and Charles Prisk were convicted of breaking and entering a shop at Daunevirke. They were remanded for sentence. William Cameron (alias Howard), for breaking and entering a shop at Mastertou, and stealing jewellery therefrom, was sentenced to four years bard labour. Mastertou, May 20.
The case of Ogilvy v. Morris in which complainant charged defendant with theft and conversion of a heifer, lasted all day. The charge was dismissed, defendant establishing the fact that he purchased the animal in question out of the pound. The Court was crowded throughout the hearing and the Magistrate’s decision caused a display of demonstrative sympathy with defendant. Auckland, May 20."' At the Supreme Court in the case of Alexander Campbell, 63 years of age, who pleaded guilty to indecent assault on four little girls, Judge Edwards said that prisoner, in addition to other offences, had served sentences of four years and ,seven years for indecent assault. His Honor’s intention was that accused should never again be at large to poison the community with his filthy practices. He would not order the lash on account of prisoner’s age, but sentence him to hard labour for seven years, sentence on each charge to be cumulative —practically a life sentence.
Wellington, May 20. • Thomas Frisk and Charlotte Frisk were put forward for sentence at the Supreme Court to-day on a charge of breaking an entering a shop at Dannevirko. The male accused gwas sentenced to twelve months’ imprison S ent. His wife was overcome on hearing the Judge’s decision and sentence on her was deferred.
