A NARROW ESCAPE.

Per Press Association. Hokitika, May 19, Two Hokitika residents, when driving across the big Wanganui river in South Westland yesterday, had a very narrow escape from drowning. The vehicle was carried down stream and striking a large boulder capsized, throwing the occupants into the river. The occupants managed to get ashore with difficulty, losing all the contents of the trap. The vehicle with the horse was subsequently recovered. The previous day two local settlers had almost a previous experience. The incidents demonstrate the necessity for a bridge being constructed, and local action in respect to building a bridge has been going for some time.
