FARMERS’ UNION.

MARTON BRANCH. The annual meeting was held on Saturday, Mr W. J. Birch in the chair. - , ’ The statement of finances showed .« credit balance at the bank. It dealt fully with the work of the Union during the past year. The membership of Marton s branch showed :.a substantial increase. The suggested trip to the . ’.Levin State Farm had been abandoned, as the guarantee required : fro’m Longburn to Levin was con'■'ifcidered prohibitive. He regretted that Mr Brice found it necessary, . owing to expansion of his business, }•' ’ to resign as secretary; a position which he had capably filled for over ; 3 years. With regard to subscription for next year it could either be fixed on rateable value or on the area basis, as at present. The report and balance-sheet were V" adopted. In speaking of the trip to Levin f State farm Mr R. K. Simpson con- - ’ sidered Government should offer farmers better inducements to visit such places. At present a heavy guarantee was asked for and it seemed unreasonable when Ministers could be conveyed by special trains to any part of the colony.
