SHIPPING RINGS.
Per Press Association. Received May 16, 10.25 a.m. Sydney May 16. ;• Speaking at the reception to the Commission of the Manufacturers’ Association, which is visiting the Commonwealth to inquire into the state of trade, Mr Morgan, attributed the drift of trade into foreign channels largely to the existence of the shipping ring, which included all the regular steamship companies doing between Australia andJJßritain, and had a hold on the whole import trade of Australia. It was absolutely impossible for any other shipping company to enter the trade, or promote healthy competition. The whole trade was tied up by the system of rings, and deferred rebates.
