4>- • FROZEN MEAT. Per Press Association. Napier, May 14. The C. O. and D. Company cable the following report on frozen meat: —“The general tone of the market is weaker and values declined to-day. Quotations: Canterbury mutton 4Jsj, d Napier, Wellington and North Island 3%d, lamb, first quality s*£d, second beef hinds 3%d, fores 3^d. ADDINGTON MARKETS. Christchurch, May 13. At Addington live stock market to-day there was a fairly large yarding of all classes of stock and a good attendance. Store sheep sold rather above late rates. Fat lambs |were rather firmer. Fat cattle showed no change in price, and pigs were easier.
The store sheep entered'were better in quality than late ’yardings, there being a 'fairly large number sent forward. Forward wethers and lambs for turnip feeding met with a good sale at prices showing an onward tendency, and ewes in good condition were well competed for at late rates.
The yarding of fat lambs was about equal to last, week’s, the quality being mixed. There was good competition for all prime freezing lines, and prices showed still further improvement on those of the previous week. Tegs made 15s, led to 18s, led extra to 20s, standard freezing weights 13s to 15s, and light and unfinished tegs *to 32s 6d.
Fat sheep: The range of prices was ; —Prime wethers 18s to 21s 6d. lighter 15s 4d to 19s 6d, prime ewes 15s 6d to 19s, medium 12s 6d to 15s, aged and light Fat Cattle: The range of prices was: —Steers £4 17s 6d to £lO 7s 6d, extra prime £ll to £l3, heifers £4 15s to £7 17s 6d, extra to £8 10s, cows £4 10s to £6 ss, and extra to £lO 10s—-equal to 32s to 25s led for prime, 8s led to 12s led for medium, and 17s to 18s for cow an inferior per 1001 b. In the store pens there was only a small entry and the sale was a dragging one throughout. Forward steers made to £4 Bs, and heifers from 20s to 555, according to age and condition. There was a medium entry of ordinary quality of dairy cows, and a fair demand for all classes. Young cows about to calve were keenly competed for, and sold at prices rrp to £9 17a 6d. An average entry of pigs, of which a considerable proportion was unfininshed, met with a Jrather dull demand at easier rates. Choppers sold up to £3 10s, heavy bacouers 60s to 645. and lighter 50s to 58s—equal to 4Kd per lb, porkers 35s to 40s, and lighter 38s to 34s—equal to to 5%, large stores 25a to 2s, small 13s to 355, and weauers 6s to 10s.
