ANGLICAN CHURCH, OHINGAITI.
The first of a series of social gatherings in'connection with t the church in OMngaiti was held in Mr Delaney’s hall on Wednesday evening and from the number who attended, some two hundred, it was evident that great interest had been aroused in the district in church work.
The Vrcar.the Rev. Mr Blackburn, presided, and in his opening remarks complimented the members of the ladies committee on the success of their efforts, and expressed pleasure in seeing so large a gathering and so many visitors from Mangaweka, Maugaonoho, Sand on Block, and the district. The main object of the meeting—to consider the desirability of taking steps to establish a church building fund — Was introduced, put to the meeting, and carried unanimously. The following committee was appointed, with power to add to its number, to make the necessary arrangements to canvass the district for subscriptions:—Messrs Hughes, T. Thompson, Eustace, Brooks, James Stent, Charles Stent, Hiorns, Oliver, W. Stevens, and J. Carver. A recitation was rendered by Mr Jabkson, and musical items by Mesdames Gower and Halkett, Misses Brooker, Humphrey, and Brooks, and Messrs Della, Were and Adams. Hearty vptes of thanks were accorded Mr T. Thompson for the loan of piano, Mr Delaney for giving the use of the hall, and to the ladies who had worked to make the gathering such a success, and also to those who contributed refreshments.
