The monthly meeting was held on Saturday. Present; Ors. K.. W. Brown (chairman), D. Howie, H. W. Oliver, G. F. Smith, and H. Burno. CORRESPONDENCE. . From E, W.. -Abraham, drawing attention to state or two culverts on the Valley Road.—Engineer to have them attended to. From F. Y. Lethbridge, M. 1., stating that Mr McGowan would name a date for receivings deputation re subsidy on cost of London s ford bridge. From Engineer of Pohangiua bridge, stating that specifications had been altered as requested by the Council and the contractor had consented to make the date of completion three months from 15th June. .

From J. D. .Baliner, c a airman of Nikau School Committee, asking the Council to deliver four or^ five loads of gravel at the scaool ground. —Gran feed. From .Treasury, stating that loan of £BOO was available for expenditure on Pohangiua bridge. From M. B. W. Beethgm, asking permission to erect telehppue posts alongside the Moa road. —Granted subject to approval of Engineer. From tho Treasury, stating that until a certificate of tho total cost of the Marten Block bridge had .been supplied from Kiwi tea County Council the loan would not be granted. From Kiwi to a County Council, stating conditions under which tnat bodv would contribute to tho cost of a bridge at London’s Ford, namely the cost not to exceed £3500 and Government to .grant £ for £ towards the cost. From the Superintendent or Electric Lines, notifying that telephone communication would be given between Colyton and Nikau it tho Council will give a guarantee to contribute £lB yearly during five years. —Held over for additional information.

From F. O. Ross, with petition from a number of ratepayers for erection of fence on Denton’s Hill road. The Engineer said the necessary work would cost £SO at least. Tho Engineer was ciirccceu to make an estimate of the cost of widening the road and to sm Mr Bruce concerning a contribution towards the cost-of fencing. REPORTS.

The accounts submitted to bo passed for payment amounted. to £lB3-1 0s Id. " The Engineer reported that li'our men v.a as work ch-aling the i-;lip at tho eastern approach to tho _Pohangiua bridge. As yet ho had been unable to obtain timber lor bridge repairs in the Awahon. Riding. About 330 yarns of gravel had been delivered iii the Mangn-ouo Riding. A few dangerous pieces required intention on Denton’s road. In tho Mtuigapikopiko Riding t!io main cross read had been repaired and a ranger had been appointed for Apiti township. The Opuwo brio go. in the Tamabi Riding has been completed. The road through tho Berest reserve and the road between Opawa, bridge and Fiilllpovt’s bridge needed repairs. Messrs Ghoyue & Grammar had complied tho me tailing coutavct on tlie Makiekie road. OTH E R SUdIN E S rf. Or. Oliver drew attention to the unsatisfactory condition of the Takapam road, some parts being yo narrow at; to render it dangerous for vehicular traffic, it was^decided to hold over the matter' until next meeting for tho presence of Cr. Handley.

Borne ropertad that he and the Engineer had inspected Baker’s road unci had come to the conclusion that the cost of metalling would be about £303 and tnat the money should be raised by ,\vay of loan. There were four ratepayers interested U aud two were favourable to raising a lean. The Clerk said there was £33 of thirds which could be used towards naviuent of interest. The Engineer said if the ‘timber trafllc continued a thicker coating nt metal would be needed and it would be advisable to raise a loan of S3GO. —Or. Burns and the Engineer co inquire whether the persons interested are willing to raise a loan. In considering the appointment of rangers the chairman expressed _ the opinion that it would be better if the Council paid the full wage and collected the fees.

The Engineer pointed out that the settlers on Table Flat, who had sufferr ' much from Arcs, had not vet been able to re-erect their fences.

Cr. Howie said that part could bo left out of the district of the ranger as little damage could be done by wandering cattle to the roads there at present. It wa« resolved to appoint Mr Whittaker ranger for Awahou, Tamakx, Maugaono, and Pohangiua Hidings, duties to commence on June Ist, and that fresh applications be invited for ranger for Mamrapikopiko, Ocnl Greek, [and Uinutoi Ridings. Mr Wiiillaker’s payinont to bo IGs per week and fees. It was resolved —

That the Engineer have some of the bad corners on the limestone cutting at Table Flat removed, the cost of the work not to exceed £e.

A deputation, consisting of Messrs A. A. Wags tuff, G-. Wagstarf, S. Mogr and I 1 ’ Matthews, waited on the Council with a request for a contribution towards the cost of erecting a room attached to the State School for tine use of technical instruction. It was stated that the classes had boon well attended for dressmaking, dairy science, English, arithmetic and bookkeeping, but better work could be done if a room wore erected. A public meeting had boon hold on Friday evening

and had approved tl»« application to the Council and Mr Braik. the Bearn’s inspect'-w, laid stated that

be pleased to have the Council’s decision after next; meeting. TENDERS. It was resolved that the tender of A. R. Dick for quarrying, breaking aud delivering .1350 cubic yards of gravel on the Awn road at 3s 8d per vard be accepted and that fresh tenders bo called for che formation of Finals’ track.
