SWEEP ON WANGANUI STEEPLES. Per Press Association. Wellington, May U, , What is alleged to be a form of New Zealand TattarsalPs Consultation is stated to have been unearthed by the local detective staff aud it is expected that several persons will have to answer charges of having, been concerned in selling tickets purporting to be of the kind mentioned. It is stated that the scheme was to have had a, big scope, extend-• ing from one end of tho Dominion to tho other. Detective Cassells, who, had had the matter in. hand for sometime past, has succeeded in obtaining evidence upon which the action isbeing taken. It is understood that the alleged sweep was got up on the Wanganui SteepleoSir.se, to be run on May 23rd. and' that .the prizes offered were as follow:-!: First horse, £750; second, £800; third, £100;; other horses to divide £2OO, and the balance in cash prizes drawn pro rata, less 10 per cent. It is stated that the .proposition involved the issue of 25',CC0 tickets at 2s each!
