MANGAWEKA.

(From Oar Own Correspondent.) The opening dance iu connection With the Mangaweka T ootbaii Club’s Fortnightly Assembly took place in the Oddfellows’ Hall, on Wednesday night, and considering the state of the weather for the last day or so, was well attended, there being about 30 couples present. The Secretary (Mr Monkley) m addressing those present stated that football had been dormant for tne last two or three years, bat it was their intention this season to take a lively interest in the game, and with the assistance of the citizens, he though the team would, make a name for themselves this season. He also stated that the Club '' ras running a gymnasium on Tuesday and Friday nights, .and he wished to invite outsiders Aatteud, as the charge for two hri acy exercise was only sixpence, which he dul not think was out of the way. He announced that every third night would be a long night for dancing, and thanked the ladies for supplying the refreshments-of which there was abundance of the most delicious •quality. Dancing was started at 8 p.m. and continued until 10.30 p.m., when supper was handed round and afterwards the dance was continued till 13.30. The Committee deserve great credit for the manner in which they managed the dance. ™oie music which was all that could be wished for was in the hands of Mrs, G. Carter (piano), Messrs G. Garter (clarionet), J- S. McDonald (violin), and D. Amos (trombone). Mr W. Monkley, assisted by Mr Dixon, as M’s.O. kept the dancing going without too long intervals. I think by the way the Club have started this season and seeing the interest they are taking in the game, that when the end of the season comes they will not be far off the top notch, and with an, energetic secretary like Mr W. Monkley there should be plenty of matches.
