FEILDING BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting was held last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr Tre.win), Crs. Richmond, West, Darragh, Toily, Bramweil, Fitzherbert, and Gocdbehoro. CORRESPONDENCE. From T. O. Richardson, asking for lease of a portion of Church street. —Referred to vYorks Committee. From W. F. Phillips, asking that ~~approach£to road in Denby Square be constructed. —Work to be done. From John Graham, demanding on behalf of Mr Pritchard compensation of £l2 on account of injury sustained to his client’s hy tripping over man hole. —Engineer to report; < FjonfJFeilding Chamber of Commerce, suggesting that a poll of ratepayers be taken on ’the question of combining the shop and factory half-holiday, and for use of' Goutfcil Chamber for meetings.—No action can be taken re holiday except on a petition of one-tenth of the ratepayers. The use of the Council Chamber was granted. From J. A. Gilbertson, stating that he had made an error of £2O in his tender for additions to Municipal buildings. —No such increase to be allowed, the tender accepted having been above the estimate.* From Secretary of . Municipal Association, notifying that the biennial conference would be held in July.—Mayor appointed delegate. From the Beautifying • Society, asking for the annual subsidy of £75 and suggesting the erection of a fence and gate to South street reserve as an improvemehh to entrance of the borough.—The Mayor said loan money could not be applied to work suggested.—Matter to be considered with the estimates. From R. W. Neal asking that water coming down East street be diverted from Jhis property.—To he attended to. From A. Dwyer, lamp lighter, asking the Council to pay. for repair of his bicycle.—Request refused, J From Library Committee, nominating persons to act on the committee. —Election of committee postponed and a committee of the Council was appointed to inquire into the financial position of the library and report to the Council. ” REPORTS. 1 ; The Health Officer reported a case of scarlet fever which occurred in April. The Ranger reported that many cattle were being grazedjand horded in some unformed streets. He had impounded 101 animals. —Action to be taken against such grazers. The abattoir manager reported that during the mouth of April were slaughtered 72 cows, 20 bullocks, 37 keifers, 319 ewes, 44 wethers, 90 lambs, 75 pigs, and 5 calves. Three cows, one ewe and 4 pigs had been condemned. The Engineer reported the completion of the kerbing and channelling contract on Kimbolton road. Good progress had been made with the North street protective work. GENERAL BUSINESS. The Works Committee was authorised to make provision for the carry - ing off of water from Lytton street. The Council decided' to hold a special meeting next Thursday to arrange for the laying off of contracts in respect to the improvements for which it had been decided to raise tbs loans. It was directed that ten chains of fencing be erected in Victoria Park and water laid on at a cost of £ls to provide grazing ground for borough horses. The Lighting Committee was directed to report to the Council where lamps were required.
