STOCK REPORT. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., renortAt Palmerston North on Thursday we had a medium entry of sheep and cattle. The sheep consisted mostly of ewes in lamb, for which little demand existed. Good condition sorts sold well, but anything low was neglected. Cattle sold freely particularly cow beef. We quote cull lambs 4s, medium lambs 6s lOd, cull ewes 4s lid. Cattle, weaners 17s 6d, store cows 20s to 81s, two-year heifers Bis to 355, springing heifers £4 10s to £4 16s, fat heifers £4 os, forward cows £3 4s to £3 2s, fat and forward cows £b 10s, fat cows £4 4s 6d to £5 4s, three-year steers £4 to £4 7s 6d.
Mesrss Abraham & Williams report At Palmerston yesterday we had a fair yarding of sheep, which met with a demand slightly in advance of last week’s rates.. We quote :—Fat wethers 15s Id to 17s Id, fat and forward ewes 11s Id to 11s 9d, empty ewes 9s 4d, 2-tooth wethers (small) 9s 7d, f.m. ewes in lamb 8s to 9s 3d. We had a very heavy yarding of cattle, which sold at current rates. Light fat bullocks £6 13s to £7 15s, forward bullocks £5 to £5 16s, fat and forward cows £3 17s to £4 4s,r°emtpy heifers £3 10s to £3, dairy cows £3 10s to £3 Is, yearling bulls 365.
GRAIN REPORT. Mr F. Pownall, of the N. Z, and Canterbury Farmers’ Co-op. Assoications, Wellington, reports as follows, all quotations being f. 0.b., port of shipment, sacks ''free. Oats : Trade visible is confined to store stocks, farmers preferring waiting further developments of prospect of market in Eastern Commonwealth States. Latter are drawing lightly, mostly milling. B grade Danish list at 2s 6d, Sparrowbills and Gartons 2s 7d, Duns 2s Bd, seeds 2s lid. Wheat: Firming in Home quarters has received sympathy in Commonwealth, Adelaide now quoting 4s 2d. Australian flour is being extensively handled far North, but not affecting Southern quotations, where wheat in first hands is firmly held, with no surplus to force sales, Tuscan and Velvet asking 4s 9d, fowl feed 4s 7d. Potatoes: Whites are finding ready outlet, and showing good condition at,- 955. Blues are less •available at 100 s, with upward tendency. Maize: Nominally ss, witlX small turnover. Barley: Malting quiet os 3d, feed active 3s 6d, Cape 4s 6d. Peas : Partridge scarce 4s Gd, split £ls 10s. Bran has hardened to £5 15s with orders filling for Sydney. Pollard : Demand above supply at £7. Oatmeal: 25’s remain at £l3, rolled oats £lB, Oatina 10s Gd. Chaff: Reserves in stores are well held, and values rising. Bright cut oat sheaf realises 97s Gd, medium 92s 6d, oat straw GOs. Hay: Rye clover stands at 85s, pressed straw 40s. GRAIN AND SEED. Messrs Kaye and Carter, Ltd., Christchurch, report as follows: —• Wheat: milling wheat Tuscan 4s 73>£d to 4s Bcl, pearl 4s 8d to 4s 9d, Hunters 4s 7jr-d to 5s Bd, fowl wheat 4s Gd to 4s 7d, f.o.b. Lyttelton, sacks extra. Milling wheat: In better demand and prices have firmed up a iitDe with very few sellers. Oats: A Gartons 2s 8d to 2s B Cartons 2s 7d to 2s Sparrowbills 2s 7d to 2s Danish 2s 7d to 2s Duos 2s 7d to 2s 9d, f.o.b. Lyttelton, sacks included. Market steady and firm. Potatoes : £4 15s to £5, iu good, demand.
