The autuniu meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club was opened at Hastings in fine weather. There was a good attendance, and among the visitors was the Hon. J. A. Millar. The sum of £8516 was handled by the totalisator. as against £10,443 on the corresponding day last year, when there was a double machine. Thirteen bookmakers did business to-day. Results : Nursery ’ Handicap, 5 furlongs: Gold Lace 1, Chan tense 2, The Cockatoo 3. Also started ; Formative, Bereugaria, Castiglione, Rock Ferry, No Trumps, Remission, Ora, Pinsent, Thaler. Wen comfortably by a length. Time, Imin 4%sec. Porangahau Handicap, six furlongs: Brl King 1, The Seer 2, Bobrikoff 3. Also started: Oxtou, Kareroa, Chicane. Tarina. Won by three parts of a length. Hawke’s Bay Cup, 1 % miles; Uenuku 1, Grand Slam 2, Kairoma 3. Also started : Zimmerman, King Billy, Loiret, Mystification, Arc Light, Ikon, and Chatterer. Kairoma led into the straight with Ikon second. Ueuuku'asserted his claim at the distance and, in a rattling finish with Grand Slam, won by a head; Kairoma was a length away third. Time, 2mm 13sec. SECOND DAY. Napier, May 8. There is a large attendance for the second day’s meeting and the course is in good order. There is a strong breeze blowing across the course. Twelve bookmakers were licensed. Results Ohiti Hurdles, 1)4 miles; Rawhiti 1, Commander 3, Top Rose 3. Scratched; Reservoir. Won easily all the way. Time, 2min 53 l-ssec. Okawa Hack Handicap, 7 furlongs: Goldfield 1, Lamsdorix 2, Utopia 3. All started. Won by a •length. Time, Imiu SSsec. MARLBOROUGH MEETING. SECOND DAY. Blenheim, May 7. A protest against the winner was entered. The partnership not being registered the protest was upheld, and the race given in favour of Jolly Roger. Owaka Handicap: Gaelic 1, White Lie 3, Diplomatic 3. All started. Won easily. Time, Imin 57sec. President’s Handicap : Lawn Rose 1, Tupono 2, First View 3. Scratched: White Lie. Won in a canter by several lengths. Time, 3min ‘dseo.

Riverland Hack: Naumai 1, Axite 2, Sweet Hill 3. Scratched: Tainui. Wen easily. Time, 52 l-ssec. Telegraph Handicap: Rose Petal 1, Lawn Rose 2, Waicola 3. All started. Won by half a length.
