The Paparoa Company’s maim tunnel has just cut through the lowest seam of anthracions coal 14ft; thick. The No. 3 seam of 'the same coal, 12ft. thick, is already opened out, so that the company will ‘he in a position to work the field 'on the completion of the tunnel. The No. 3 seam, 6ft. thick, is also being opened out. A very successful meeting was held in "the office of the Marton Junction Stables last evening for the purpose of forming a Quoits Club, there being 17 persons present. Mr W. Gomez was- jvoted to the chair. It was decided to form a club to be named the Marton Junction Quoits Club. Several sets of quoits were donated and 19 names were handed in as members. The season, will be opened with a match to be arranged with a team from the grocers, butchers and bakers of Marton. Much enthusiasm was shown and no doubt the newly-formed club will materially assist in reviving the interesting and ancient game of quoits. Several apologies were received from those interested, who were unable to attend and it was decided to hold another meeting on 13th inst. to elect officers and make arrangements for a tournament.
