On the motion of Mr Brooks, the chair was taken hy Mr Hiorns, who, in his opening remarks, tcompn- , mented the ladies present for the m- > terest they were evincing in the meeting. , . - The Chairman read the report ox the previous meeting and letters from the Minister of Lands, Mr A. E. Remington (member for the district), the* Hon. G. Powlds (referring to the question or the proposed site in Ohingaiti for the uew mental hospital), and from Mr J. i£. Logan superintendent ot Electric Lines (stating that it was being arranged to give effect to the _ request for a telephone bureau at Ohingaiti}. The Chairman 'also explained the reasons which had dictated the request to the Hon. the Minister for Lands to defer the arranged visit to Ohingaiti on the 31st April last. On the motion of Mr Brooks, seconded by Mrs Edwards, it was unanimously resolved that a petition he sent to the Government asking that they take immediate steps to acquire and throw open for settlement the large block of [.native land of 8000 acres on the east side or Rangitikei River. Mr Yennell proposed and Mrs Kite seconded, |that a committee he formed, with power to add to their number, to act as a reception committee to welcome the Minister for Lands and the member for the district, if a visit of those gentlemen be arranged. This was carried unanimously. , The following committee (of those present) w ere iMected: —Messrs Delaney, Brooks, Hine, and the Chairman, Mesdames Edwards, Coyle, Kite and Miss Hiorns. It was resolved to invite-several of the residents of the Sandpn Block and others to join the committee. „ , , , After the usual vote of thuaks to tiie chairman and on the motion of Mr J. B. Lees, a special vote of thanks to Mr Delaney for the use of the hall, the meeting closed.
