IMPORTANT TO FARMERS.

Par Press Association. Auckland, May 2. An important question was brought up at the meeting of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association by M R. Salmon. The master butchers, he said, were inaugurating an insurance fund for condemned stock. With the farmers this matter was one of great importance. Butchers frequently ,had beasts condemned and the result was a direct loss to the farmer who had to stand the responsibility. Under this insurance it was proposed to levy 6d per beast on farmers, and the fund would be drawn upon to compensate the seller whenever a beast was condemned. Mr John Massey said he thought it would be better to make the Government pay full compensation. Mr Grey urged that farmers and butchers should exercise better iudgment in the sale and purchase of stock. Mr Salmon replied that it frequently happened that the best looking animals were those condemned by Government officials for tuberculosis. It was agreed to leave the matter in abeyance until some further information of the proposed insurance fund came before the committee.
