Sir John Brunner’s speech (reported on Saturday) is causing a sensation. The Daily News interprets the speech as an appeal for the improvement of the Port of London, [the reform of railway admiustration, the revival of the canal system and the introduction of such measures as’the Patents Act.
The Daily Chronicle “says thatJMr Lloyd George has already forestalled Sir J. Brunner. lu any case, as Istauco of trade by Government action was one thing and Protection in a fiscal sense another.
The Spectator is dismayed to find a very prominent and typical Liberal like Sir J. Brunner presiding at a party meeting and advocating the shibboleths of tariff reformers without the slightest protest.
