In his official report on the BrayTjroofc accident, the fireman of the first engine states that the driver applied the brakes, but just before coming to the home signal the train seemed to get 'away. Tba fireman applied the hand brake and the driver reversed the engine and put the steam against her, but she still j went on. The driver of the second engine * reports that owing to the smoke of : the leading engine, he could not see the distant signal till close up. He felt the driver ofgthe first engine apply the brake, but it did not appear to be retaining its usual effect. He then put bis brake, handle round to emergency, but found the air gone, so he reversed his engine* and gave her steam, but she was then past the home signal and was unable to |stop. The fireman of the second engine gave a similar report.
