A private cable has been received which states that Sydney will be the first port of call of the American fleet in the Commonwealth. The fleet is expected to reach Auckland on August 15, and after remaining about a fortnight in New Zealand waters, will proceeds direct to Sydney.
[This arrangement; should give plenty of time for the fleet to visit Wellington. ]

The Trades Hall Council resolved that the proposed expenditure of £50,000 for entertaining the American fleet was a criminal waste of money while thousands in their midst were wanting work.
