FAULTY SIGNALS.

Press Association —Copyright. Sydney, May 1

The evidence of the signalman in connection with the Mnrrurundi accident showed that the semaphore frequently failed to return to its position when the lever had been released. He had demonstrated this to the superintendent, and also had called the statioumaster’s attention to the faulty working of the signals.

Received May 2, 11.35 a.m. Sydney, May 2.

The stationmaster at Mauriclieville gave evidence that he had no confidence in the signal and was very careful in handling it. It failed many times previously to act perfectly. The district superintendent deposed that he examined the signal after the accident and found that by faulty manipulation the arm would not go back to “Danger.” The Railway Department had hundreds of similar signals and were .quite satisfied with their working.
