Mr Long, in a speceb on the measure, urged that the time limit was absolutely incompatible with •the concurrent levy for insurance. He—reminded the House that the Socialists wore already talking of the expropriation of other kinds of 'property after the time limit of 14 years. Several Liberals spoke against the Bill. Mr Asquith will deliver the Budget ou Thursday next. Complaints made of the inactivity of the-Imperial Government in connection with the New Hebrides, were referred to in the House of Commons. It was pointed out that the French Governor was on the way out while there was no word of a similar British official being selected. Mr Deakin, it was stated, cabled Home six weeks ago. A ’great meeting of the Liberal Party at the Reform Club urged Mr Asquith to persist with the Licensing Bill. CRICKET AND POLITICS. Received May 1, 9.15 a.m. London, April 30. Sir E. Grey, speaking at a reception to the cricketer Hardstaff, by his fellow townsmen, at Kirby Mashfield, said that the Board of Trade .would again endeavour to avert the shipbuilding lockout. He also announced that Sir Anthony MacDonuell was shortly returning with a Peerage.
