CAN YOU FIND THE ELEPHANT.
“Canyon find the elehpant?’’ is the catch-word of the hour in London. In less than a week ‘Answers’ sold half a million copies of its new elephant puzzle. In thousands _of homes bnsy fingers are manipulating seven pieces of paper, endeavouring to construct from their fantastic shapes the likeness of an elephant. There is an interesting story behind the puzzle. It was sent to ‘Answers by a gentleman living in a distant British colony. A £5 note accompanying the puzzle was to he given to any member of the staff of ‘Ansvvers’ who could solve the mysterv. Though many attempts were made and failed, the editor of the paper did not think the puzzle would “catch on” with the public, aud returned it with the £5 note. Nothing daunted, the inventor sent his puzzle back once more with the solution. The editor then realised that the inventor had discovered a really ingenious puzzle. He promptly sealed the solution, deposited it at Ooutts’ Bank, and offered £IOOO reward for the correct answer The huge load of replies is to be examined on July Ist.
