APITI.
i'rom Our Own Correspondent. At the householders’ meeting on Monday night, the secretary in his report referred to the steps taken re establishing a district high school in Apiti. The chief inspector’s report had been very favourable and;:over twenty signatures received from pupils'eligible to attend. Eulogistic reference was also made sby the secretary and chairman to the splendid results again achieved by the headmaster (Mr J. Matthews), and his staff at the recent examination. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded him and his assistants. The outgoing committee were also thanked for their services during the past year. Members of the local branch of the Oddfellows’ Lodge held a church parade on Sunday, when the Salvation Army Barracks was graced with their presence. The Methodists held a sale of work on Tuesday, and provided I refreshments for the inner man. As the attendance was good the results should prove very satisfactory. A gift auction (so-called Dutch) at night finished the proceedings. People were somewhat disappointed at the non-appearance of the auctioneer, but Messrs Gould aud Stephens filled the gap to everybody’s satisfaction.
