Auckland, April 25,
Quigg, one of the victims in the Maramarau colliery accident, said that most likely one of the shots loosened the coal in the roof and it fell practically without warning . Quigg’s brother was working some distance off. Shanby was trucking. There was another man Ferguson in the vicinity. Quigg does not know what became of him. The roof where they were working on a big seam was 20 to 25 feet overhead. They were splitting pillars Quigg heard a splitting sound -and called out 5 “My God, we’re killed.” Quigg was stooping ' and Shanby standing. The coal caught him on the head and hack. It buried Quigg past his waist and struck him on the head. One block lying across his legs had to be spilt before it could he removed. The manager of the colliery has received no additional particulars. |So far as he knows only two men were injured. Lucilla Rose Hutchinson, 5-year old daughter of W. G.
