Greymouth, April 24,
A very old resident of the town in the person of Mr James Ooakley, 73 years of age, passed away tonight. The deceased was a prominent figure in the gold rushes of the t-arly days of the coast. He leaves a grown-up family. Auckland, April 24.
Two miners named Henry Shauby and Edward Grigg, who sustained injuries as the result of a coal slip in one of the Mercer mines this afternoon, were admitted to the hospital to-night. Shanby is in a very critical condition. Christchurch, April 24. A middle-aged man, named William A. Lewis, a railway labourer, living in Sydenham, died to-night from the effects of prussic acid, supposed ;to have been taken by him this morning.
