NATIONAL LEAGUE OF NEW ZEALAND.

METHODIST CHURCH, SAMSON.

The anniversary services of the Methodist Church were conducted at Sanson on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. The annual tea meeting was held on Good Friday and was attended by a large number of the Methodists and their friends of other churches in the district. The tables were well filled twice and in part a third time. After the tea the public meeting was held, presided over by Mr K. W. Bishop, the oldest Methodist local preacher in the circuit. Speeches were delivered by the Revs. Carlyle, of Rongotea; Evans of Bulls, and McNicoll, of Sanson. The treasurer of'the church trust (Mr John Anderson) presented the balance-sheet, which showed a small deficit on the year’s transactions. The property of the whole circuit, including two churches, parsonage, paddocks, etc., was stated to be absolutely free from debt. The choir, under the care of Mr Jas. A’Court, rendered a number of anthems very On Easter Sunday the services were continued. The Rev. C. E, Beecroft, President of the Conference, was to have "preached the sermons, but the w r eather prevented an interchange of pulpits between the Revs. Beecroft and McNicoll, and Mr McNicoll preached instead. Mr Beecroft has promised, however, to preach in Sanson on Sunday next, both morning and evening, when many of those who were prevented from hearing him last Sunday will have an opportunity of listening to the President.
