ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Per Press Association. Auckland, x\pril 31. At Helensville to-day, Jonas Matthew White, aged 18; his brotluu, Me P. White (of Helensville), and Mr N. Kay (of Mount Roskill), were cantering on horseback, when a trap, occupied by Messrs O’Oadam and Hart, came in the opposite direction. The shaft of the vehicle penetrated the side of the first-named lad, and as ha was badly injured he was Immediately driven back to Helensville. White died early this morning. An inquest i was held to-day, aud a verdict of accidental death was brought in. j Invercargill, April 33. At the inquest on the bodies of ,vi Charles Brown, Geo. Sanders and William Jones, drowned off River- j ton beach, through a mishap to an oil launch, which was caught in a storm, it transpired that she carried : no canvas or life saving apparatus. * Apparently the crew ran before the gale and attempted to beach the boat which capsized in the surf. A vredict of accidental death was returned, but a rider added that all seagoing fishing craft onght to carry life belts.
