THE BLACKBALL STRIKE.
It transpires that originally motions stood on tho hooks of the Blackball Union to accept twenty minutes’ crib time for tho eight hours shift and half an hour for the ten hours shift. When the Company intimated its willingness to favourably consider half an hour crib time after the men had rosximed work, the Union demanded thirty minutes for both shifts. _ At Saturday’s meeting of the Union, Mr Guinness (acting for Mr G. G. Stead, Chairman of Directors) telegraphed as follows The mine will remain closed uutil_ the men resume work on the basis of twenty minutes’ crib. When work is resumed the management will favourably consider any reasonable proposal.” . The decision of the Union on the matter has not been disclosed. MINERS TO BE PROCEEDED AGAINST. The Crown, having failed to obtain the payment of the fine imposed by the Arbitration Court on the Blackball Miners’ Union on April 7th, instructions were issued to the Crown Prosecutor at GreymoUth to take proceedings against the individual members of the Union. The Minister for Labour stated yesterday that this course is being followed as speedily as possible. Summonses are being issued, but as there are a large number of men concerned, the process has involved time. The matter was being dealt with under the regular Magistrate’s Court procedure, and the law would he ried out.
