SWISS ROMANCE.
FATHER NARROWLY ESCAPES MARRYING- HIS DAUGHTER.
Geneva. February 28. A curious and romantic story is reported from the town of Appeuzeli. In 1887 a Swiss, named Joseph Muller, deserted his wife and child, alittle girl named Anna, about 6* months old, at Lucerne, and fled toMexico. Mme. Muller died soon after, and Anna was adopted by a prosperousbutcher of |Lucerne, who gave thfr girl a good education. Eighteen months ago the butcher sold out his business, and bought a large hotel afe. Apponzell, Anna, now a handsome, intelligent girl, managing the establishment. Last May Joseph Muller,. Anna’s father, who had made a large fortune in America, arrived at thehotel, but as Anna had taken the name of her foster parents, he was not aware of their relationship. A young local doctor of good family and the elderly Muller became suitors for Anna’s hand, and in July last the girl chose the latter. The marriage was fixed for the end of December, and iu the meantime Joseph Muller courted his daughter. The day before the wedding Muller, seeing his fiancee wearing some jewellery which seemed familiar to him, questioned her about it, and discovered the truth. Next day he left for Berlin, and sent his daughter a letter explaining his conduct, and advising her to marry the young doctor; he enclosed a cheque for £BOOO iu the letter. The other day Anna Muller was married to the doctor, but she has not heard of her father since his flight.
