TO VISIT AUCKLAND ONLY.

The Secretary • for the Colonies -tvires the Governor that the United States Government accept with great pleasure the invitation of your government for the American fleet to visit New Zealand, but it will be only possible to visit Auckland in view o'f the necessity for a speedy return to the Atlantic. THE RECEPTION IN AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. Auckland, April 8. The Mayor, by a representative of the Herald to-night, said be would do all he could from a civil standpoint to entertain the American Fleet in a manner befitting the occasion, and would call a public meeting to discuss the whole matter. At the same time, he'emphaoised the fact that the visit was one of national significance, and the invitation had been sent by the Prime Minister on behalf of New Zealand. Ho had no doubt Parliament would make special provision for the proper entertaining of the fleet. He suggested that Parliament should adjourn during the visit and all members come to Anck land. The Mayor also hoped the importance of the Maoris playing a prominent part in the festivities would not be lost sight of.
