PATEA WANGANUI HOSPITAL BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above Board was held yesterday. Present: Messrs W. Ritchie (chairman), and Carson, Spriggens, Battle, Russell, Fletcher, J, F. Sicely, S. Beban, B. P. Lethbridge, and R. Y. Simpson. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Smith, Wilson, and Fraser. Mr Beban moved the following motion :—“That a cottage hospital be erected at Taihape. ” —Mr Battle seconded the motion pro forma—Mr Beban said that it was the intention of the inhabitants of Taihape to contribute £I4OO to erect, a building, and guarantee £IOO per annum for its upkeep. A petition in support of the hospital had been signed so far by 22 people, but unfortuntely Mr Arrowsmith, who was chiefly interested in the scheme, had been away for some time, and very little had been done in the matter since last meeting.—Mr Carson moved the following amendment: — “That on the residents of Taihape erecting a hospital according to plans submitted to and approved by this Board, and entering into a bond to contribute £IOO a year towards its maintenance, this Board will take over and undertake the management.”—Mr Spriggens seconded this amendment pro forma. —Mr Beban then withdrew his motion, and the amendment became the resolution, which, on being put to the vote, was lost. —Mr Sicely then moved that the matter be adjourned for a month to enable the Board to see how many signatures were added to the petition.—This being put to a vote was also lost.
