COURTS.

Per Press Association. Auckland, April 9. Thos. Fitzgerald, charged with sotting fire to the residence of Mr Leo Myers, appeared at the Police Court to-day. The Crown Prosecutor stated that accused had admitted setting fire to the house on two occasions. He understood the defence would be a plea of insanity. Accused was an old servant whom Mr Myers had treated well and no reason could be adduced for his act.

Timaru, April 9. Six -months ago a commercial traveller had his bicycle stolen from Westport. Nothing more was heard of it until last week when the police here discovered a young man named Bell in possession of it. Accused was before the Court this morning and was sentenced to three months imprisonment. He said that he was not sure of his name or age, but remembreed having been brought up at Wanganui.

Daniel Sargent, a middle aged farmer residing on a farm of 20 0 acres, 25 miles from Timaru, was committed for trial at the Supreme Court on a charge of wilfully killing a horse by shooting, and woudning three others. The horses belonged to a neighbour with whom accused was on very friendly terms. There was no motive for the deed.
