LONDON MARKETS. London, February 21. The C.C. & D. 00., Ltd. ,- Wellington, report: —Since our last report was issued there has been practically no change in the market calling for any special comment. There is a fab enquiry for anything really choice, but ordinary qualities have found, a quiet and almost dragging sale. Prices for home-bred beef have been maintained with difficulty, but homebred mutton, in the absence of any competition from Dutch supplies, has been held firm at last pricss Tbe’total quantities of meat passed through Smithfield last week showed a considerable reduction on the total for the preceding week, but the pitchings in the early part of the current wcu- were fairly heavy. North American chilled beef shows no change in value, but South American chilled beef is distinctly cheaper at about 4d per lb. for binds and 3 %d per lb for fores. Veal and pork are in short supply and rather d6&F6T New Zealand mutton: The arrivals during the week consist of the lonic with .10,360 carcases and "Whakatane with 3547 carcases. The supply of good Canterbury sheep is still very limited, aud very little business is being done at the quotation of 4%d per lb. Southland sheep are daily in evidence in moderate quantities, selling at 3%d to 3%d per lb. N orth Island brands are plentiful, but the output has been fairly well maintained, and quotations are firm at to 3%d per lb. The general tone has Improved slightly, and a little more life in the demand would probably bring about au advance in values. South American mutton: Stocks have been increased by 14,486 carcases per Highland Enterprise, 10,750 carcases per Admiral Rigault, and 29,297 carcases per Roystou Grange. Sales are still being pressed by some holders with the result that values remain at 2J£d to per lb. Good light weight sheep are scarce, and consequently the general avefaga realised is very close to the former figure. Australian mutton : Arrivals have been numerals, consisting of the Wakool, 1516 carcases, Langton Grange 3153 carcases, Essex 7851 carcases, Mongolia 2014 carcases, Buteshire 3000 carcases, and Runic 14,594 carcases. Sales have been made a little more easily at 3%d to 3d per lb for wethers and 2%d per lb for light plain ewes. New Zealand lambs: Further supplies amounting to 34,930 carcases have come to hand. Canterbury lambs are now available, and good light weights are making up to 6d per lb. The bulk of the offerings, however, are North Islands, and, although mostly of good quality, these have included some very plain carcases. Prices range from about 3}£d clown to per lb. Australian lambs: The>dditions to stocks amount to 150,330 carcases. These lambs are moving very freely, and prices have hardened a little.

The bottom quotation for the plain and inferior carcases is now B>£d per lb. Medium weignts of average quality sell at about per lb, and the carcases which commanded 6d per lb are now getting very scarce. Frozen beef: Receipts consist of 3615 quarters from. New Zealand, 5895 quarters from Australia, and 25,696 quarters from South America. Sales have been readily made at last quotations, but hinds have a slightly weaker tendency, while fores remain in request.
