CLERICAL HERO.
RECTOR WHO HAS SAVED MANY LIVES. Loudon, February 19. The Bishop of Bangor has appointed the Rev. Owen Lloyd Williams, Rector of Llanrhyddlad, to the Oanoury and Chancellorship of Bangor Cathedral, vacant by the death of the late Chancellor Richards, Rector of Aberffraw. Mr Williams is the son of a former chancellor of the cathedral, who was Rector of -Llanfairynghomoy, a parish on a dangerous part of the coast of Anglesey, where his mother started the first lifeboat in North Wales. Mr Williams’ ministrations have always been in parishes near the seaside, and he always commanded the local lifeboat until he was compelled by old age to retire. In 1854, for example, he r went out on a pitch-dark night in a gale of wind on the coast of Anglesey and saved twenty-four lives. Again he ventured out in December, 1862, on the Carnarvonshire coast, and brought home twenty-four men. In 1870, on a dark night, in a heavy sea, he rescued the crew of the Kenilworth, for which he received the silver medal of the Lifeboat Institution. Again, he was out for twenty-four hours, standing by the Dusty Miller till a tug came and dragged her off St. Patrick’s Causeway.' For this he received a second service clasp and a pair of-silver- : mounted binoculars. He has also received other presentations, notably a gold watch and chain from the whole body of mariners on the Welsh coasts for his exertions in saving the_ lives of so many seafarers.
