MARTON CHAMBER OF COMCOMMERCE.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Executive of above was held’ in the Borough Council Chamber last evening, Mr F. Purnell (president) in the chair. The following were elected members:—Messrs O. .L. Harris, M. Bornhold, J. F. Sicely, F. G. Hilton, J. Swallow, W. Gruickshanks, G. E. Signall, E. H Wing. H. E. Rawson, A. H. and H. Sutcliffe, R. J. Walters, J. A. Pawson and S. Cox. The Chairman reported the recommendations of the committee appointed to consider .the question of the alteration of borough boundaries. It was resolved to adopt the plan prepared by Mr Sicely with certain modifications and to submit the proposed alterations- to the Borough Council and Eangitikei County Council for approval. It was also decided to ask the local authorities if they would favourably consider a proposal to exclude from the borough certain lands lying to the West.of Pukepapa road. A letter was read from Mr Stevens, M.P., who submitted for the information of the Chamber the evidence he had collected some months ago respecting the feasibility of obtaining artesian water with a view of urging Government to sink a trial bore.

It was decided to assist the Borough Council in any endeavour to have a trial bore sunk and a deputation was appointed to wait on the Mayor on the subject. Complaint having been made of. delay at Wellington and Wanganui in the transit of goods it was resolved to solicit the assistance of Wellington, Wanganui, Feilding and Palmerston North Chambers in obtaining more prompt delivery. It was further decided to request the Railway Department to have a porter to!d|off with a trolley to take passengers’ luggage from the coaches to the trains at Marton Station.

A committee was appointed to consider the question of tree planting in the borough and report to a future meeting.
