SATURDAY HALF HOLIDAY

Per Press Association. Nelson, April 8. A meeting of shopkeepers opposed to the Saturday half holiday was held last night. A reply was received from the Minister of Labour, that no alteration in the day could be made till next year. After a long discusison the following motion was carried by i 8 to 2;—“That this meeting agrees that owing to Government refusing the request of shopkeepers to alter the statutory half holiday to Wednesday, a thorough canvass of the town be made for signatures of shopkeepers willing to close on Wednesday, and open on Saturdays, and if the ma-. jority agree, the alteration take place from the 22nd April, with the object of testing the law.”
