SHOOTING.
TURAKINA RIFLE CLUB. The final shoot for the President’s cup took place lust "Wednesday, Rifleman J. Morrison proving the winner-by 14 points, despite the fact that the handicapper stretched the handicaps in order to niake a close ' finish. Riflemen W. Bowen and Hillmer were second and third. All axe young shots and are deserving of much credit. The threatening state of the weather prevented the ladies from dispensing afternoon tea on the range, but though the weather often beats Riflemen it can’t beat the ladies. On this occasion they served tea in the reading room after the match was over. This was much appreciated by the club. When justice had been done to the good things the Captain of the Club handed to Rifleman Morrison' the President’s cup, and in doing so congratulated him on learning to shoot straight in so short a time. The winner replied, but forewarn of space I am unable to give his speech in full. Captain Kiernan thanked the ladies for the enjoyable spread. Mr A. E. Wakeman replied on the . ladies’ behalf, and stated that it was their intention to present the club with a champion belt to be competed for next season. Appended are the
