Two old houses adjoining Berner’s Hotel, Castle and Oxford streets, London, collapsed early to-day, burying thirty—mostly foreign servants, employed at Berner’s and the York Hotels. Several were killed, and some others were, terribly injured. Received April 7, 8.35 a.m.

The houses collapsed without warning to the 35 inmates. Eight bodies have been recovered, and 21 persons were rescued alive. Hundreds of police and firemen made tremendous exertions to extricate others. The accident was due to disturbance of ; the “foundations owing to the rebuilding of an adjoining warehouse.
